About Honest Car Check
Honest Car Check is a UK-only vehicle history service built on official DVLA and DVSA data. We are run by DOT.MOV Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.
Why we exist
Most UK vehicle check sites are designed to upsell. They show a teaser, push a £19.99 "premium" report, then ask for a monthly subscription on top. We are not that. One free profile from your registration. One £4.99 full report with everything in it. No subscription, no nag, no add-on bundles, no upsell ladder.
Our sources
Every data point we show is labelled with where it came from:
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service for make, model, colour, year, fuel, engine, CO₂, tax status, MOT status and outstanding recalls. Direct from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
- DVSA MOT History API for every MOT test result, mileage reading and recorded defect. Direct from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
- Public motoring information like the r/CarTalkUK subreddit and other UK owner forums are sometimes consulted as background when writing editorial guides. Never used in the per-vehicle report.
What you get for free
Type any UK registration into our home page and you get the vehicle's identity, current tax and MOT status, the full MOT pass-rate history, the mileage timeline as a chart, and our basic flags for any mileage anomaly, outstanding recall or export marker. All free, no signup.
What you get for £4.99
The complete MOT defect history with every advisory line, defects categorised by system (brakes, suspension, electrics, lighting, emissions and so on), an explicit mileage fraud verdict with the evidence, a plain English summary you could hand to a buyer or seller, and a downloadable PDF you keep forever. One payment. No subscription.
Who writes the content
Editorial guides under /cars, /compare, /learn and /selling are written by Honest Car Check. We work from the official DVSA MOT failure dataset and cross-reference publicly available UK motoring information so each piece is grounded in real, current data rather than guesswork. We do not copy from other sites. If you spot anything inaccurate, tell us and we will fix it.
The per-vehicle profile and £4.99 report are not pre-written articles. They are built live from DVLA and DVSA data on the registration you submit, then a plain-English summary is generated specifically against that vehicle's history at the moment of purchase. Every vehicle gets its own report.
